Hypothyroidism can cause hair loss, especially thinning of the outer third of the eyebrows.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder also known as &#8220;spot baldness&#8221; that can result in hair loss ranging from just one area to every hair on the entire body. Since hair loss may be an early sign of a disease, it&#8217;s important to find the cause so that it can be treated properly and fast. Saw Palmetto is an herbal DHT inhibitor often claimed to be cheaper and have fewer side effects than finasteride and dutasteride; unlike other 5alpha-reductase inhibitors, saw palmetto induces its effects without interfering with the cellular capacity to secrete PSA (protein specific antigen). Garlic oil remedy for hair loss - at bedtime, puncture a couple of garlic pearles, squirt the oil on the scalp, massage, cover with a cap, shampoo and rinse in the morning.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">In Part I of these two articles I indicated that obesity is the major risk factor for Diabetes Type 2, also known as Diabetes Mellitus. To understand how obesity can take you to a diagnosis of diabetes type 2, let us check a few facts.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The first thing you need to be aware of is that obesity is what ignites the spark. The extra fat accumulated in your fat cells releases cytokines, a kind of proteins that cause inflammation. In particular, the abdominal fat and the one found around your internal organs such as the liver, the heart, etc, are the ones associated with inflammation, indicates Dr. Brent Wisse at the Department of Medicine, University of Washington, Seattle.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">According to Dr. Wisse, the cells that form the fat tissue secrete a number of molecules that seem to send signals to your body parts; these molecules start the inflammatory process. These signals in turn cause resistance to insulin, a state where the glucose in the blood cannot get into the cells. Therefore, inflammation within your fat tissue may be a first step which results in diabetes and atherosclerosis.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As you can see, there is a relationship between obesity, the inflammatory process, and the appearance of resistance to insulin. These three factors are associated with a risk increase for developing diabetes type 2 or diabetes mellitus.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As insulin resistance increases, your body cells panic because they are not getting their food, glucose, and thinking the problem is not enough insulin in the blood, they call the pancreas to produce more, so that glucose can enter the cells. Obediently, the pancreas releases more insulin into the blood which does no good because the fat cells refuse to let glucose enter. Eventually, these irregularities cause the glucose level in the blood to go up after meals although at this stage it still remains normal before meals.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">All this commotion causes the general level of glucose in the blood to go up little by little. Finally the pancreas gets exhausted with this back and forth glucose business and can not produce enough insulin to keep the glucose in the blood within normal levels. Of course, this process does not happen overnight; it may take between 5 and 10 years in an adult and the end result is pre-diabetes. The same process goes much faster in children.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">When the pancreas cannot satisfy the demand for insulin, glucose in the blood will reach levels where your doctor will diagnose diabetes type 2. At this point, patients need oral medication to lower the glucose in the blood, help the system to release more insulin, and reduce insulin resistance.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">With time, the production of insulin decreases even more and many patients with diabetes type 2 need insulin shots to control glucose. If the resistance to insulin continues for a long time, oral medication plus insulin shots could be necessary.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As you may also know, diabetes can lead to heart and kidney complications as well as nerve damage in the legs and the eyes. Most patients with diabetes die of heart attacks, a powerful reason to follow a balance diet that protects your heart.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Conclusion<br />

However, to be applicable to the large number of people who might benefit from stem cells replacement, an unlimited supply of stem cells must be found. Those cells can then be stored by using a cord blood bank or stem cells bank.<br />
To address this problem, cell lines from human endocrine pancreas have been developed.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In one case, a cell line has been developed from human islets that can be induced under some circumstances to differentiate into functional stem cells exhibiting appropriate glucose-responsive insulin secretion. Inducing differentiation is complex, requiring the activation of multiple signalling pathways, including those downstream of those involved in cell-cell contact and the glucagon-like peptide receptor. In addition, transfer of the PDX gene is also necessary to render the cells competent for differentiation. However, it is clear that many other genes are involved in maintaining the commitment of stem cells towards the cell lineage. Understanding the complement of genes required to establish and maintain a stem cell lineage commitment would be enormously helpful in efforts to develop a cell line that can be used for stem cells replacement therapies.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Here, we provide further information on the characteristics of cell lines that we have developed from the human pancreas that are relevant to the development of a stem cell replacement therapy for diabetes.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The recent explosion of interest in cell replacement therapies for diabetes has been driven primarily by the dramatic progress in allogeneic islet cell transplantation. For the first time, the Edmonton group demonstrated that islet transplantation is a viable therapy for diabetes. This advance was dependent largely on progress in immunosuppressive drug therapy that allowed for a steroid-free regimen. Further advances in this area are likely to result in even better long term results as there is evidence that even the current improved drug regimens are toxic to stem cells, albeit to a lesser extent than the previous steroid containing regimens.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">While the success of the Edmonton trial was an important proof of principle, it did not address the major problem with islet transplantation, that is, the grossly inadequate supply of cadaveric pancreas as a source of islets. Solving this problem has been a major focus of research in stem cells biology.<br />
Many different potential sources of cells for stem cells replacement, each with its own advantages and disadvantages, are being studied.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Yoga exercise to lose weight is important for many people working on an exercise program or starting one. Flexibility and reducing stress are major priorities and one of the best ways to begin being flexible and to help reduce stress is Yoga.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">If you are like me then you may be thinking like I did when I first heard about Yoga and wondering how you are going to bend over backwards or end up looking like a pretzel with a head attached to it. It wasn’t until I tried a very basic routine that I discovered how great Yoga makes me feel. The stretching is a bit difficult at first but you feel so relaxed at the end of a session that you end up wanting to continue learning and remaining consistent with your workouts.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Yoga comes from the East and it is a name for a group of stretching and breathing exercises that can have a tremendous positive effect on your mind and body. You do not need any special equipment except for a mat or a place to work where you will not slip as you move along the exercises. I highly recommend investing a small amount of money for Yoga blocks because the will help you when you have to stretch. A good Yoga kit should not cost you more than twenty dollars and it will include a mat, 2 blocks and a stretching band.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">There are many ways that you can learn how to practice. If you enjoy working out in your home then you can buy a book or you can use a DVD to learn how to perform Yoga. You will be able to mimic the moves as well as understand the proper breathing techniques by listening to the instructor. It is very helpful to watch it a few times before you begin to make sure that you are comfortable before attempting the moves because once you begin, you will take your cues from the audio instruction and not the visual since you will be looking up, down or away from the screen. (This took me a few tapes to figure out.) Also, if you belong to a health club, many of them offer Yoga classes and this will help you learn because you will be able to see firsthand what you are supposed to be doing and if the class is small enough, the instructor may be able to correct your posture when you are not getting it right. There are plenty of independent Yoga instructors in most areas but it can be a bit pricey at 10-20 dollars per lesson or about $100 per month for an unlimited membership.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As you progress through your diet and exercise plan, I want you to seriously consider giving Yoga a try. Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years and will continue to be used by people for their health and harmony.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">India has a long history of medical remedies practiced by holy men and local medicine men since ancient times. Some of these remedies date back to the Vedas or 600 BC. Among these medical wonders the two most prominent are Ayurveda and Yoga.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ayurveda<br />
Literally meaning the science of life, Ayurveda has evolved from understanding the laws of nature, the psyche, the conscious and the unconscious levels.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ayurveda places equal emphasis on the mind and body, it aims to integrate and balance the body, mind, and spirit. This balance is believed to lead to contentment and health, and to help prevent illness. The chief aim of Ayurvedic practices is to cleanse the body of substances that can cause disease, helping reestablish harmony and balance.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Constitution or Prakriti<br />
Ayurveda has some basic beliefs about the body&#8217;s constitution. Constitution refers to a person&#8217;s general health. The constitution is called the prakriti which is a unique combination of physical and psychological characteristics and the way the body functions. It is influenced by such factors as digestion and how the body deals with waste products.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Three qualities called doshas form important characteristics of the constitution or prakriti and control the activities of the body.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The doshas are called: vata, pitta, and kapha.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Each dosha is made up of one or two of the five basic elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ayurveda believes that an imbalance in the dosha produces symptoms and disease. Imbalances may be a result of an unhealthy lifestyle or diet; too much or too little mental and physical exertion; or not being properly protected from the weather, chemicals, or germs.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ayurvedic treatments</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ayurvedic treatments are of many types<br />
Panchakarma is for cleansing; it focuses on the digestive tract and the respiratory system. Cleansing may be done through enemas, fasting, or special diets or medicated oils through a nasal spray or inhaler.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Meditation is a conscious mental process using certain techniques like focusing attention or maintaining a specific posture to relax the body and mind, and lying in the sun. The patient may be advised to seek nurturing and peacefulness through yoga, meditation, exercise, or other techniques.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Herbal Medicines patients may have to take herbs to improve digestion, reduce fever, and treat diarrhea. Very small amounts of metal and mineral preparations also may be given, such as gold or iron.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Special Diets are an important part of treatment and patients may be asked to abstain or increase particular foods.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Massages may be used to reduce pain, lessen fatigue, or improve circulation. Ayurveda proposes that there are 107 &#8220;vital points&#8221; in the body where life energy is stored, and that these points may be massaged to improve health.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">What do you do when you have a chronic disease, feel pain nearly all the time, try various treatments, and get little relief from your symptoms?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">For an increasing number of people in the United States and around the world, the last-resort answer is the holistic fitness training provided by the Dahn Yoga &amp; Health Centers. Dahn Yoga consists of holistic health and brain education in the form of energy-training programs to individuals, families and communities. Dahn Yoga offers a wide range of innovative, highly effective preventive and restorative approaches, through its regular classes, special workshops and individual energy healing sessions.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Here is the case of Sylvia, in her 70s and living in the Midwest. She faced a chronic disease, which had defied for years any positive response to a variety of treatments. As she explains her initial condition, &#8220;In 2000. I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis, a painful and chronic disease of the bladder. I had been suffering with symptoms for five years, and was relieved to finally know what was wrong with me. I was skeptical at first by the glowing reports of restored health I heard from other members, but I started taking classes regularly and scheduled private energy healing sessions&#8221;.</p>

I found that if I had pain at the beginning of class, it would be virtually gone when the class was over. I learned to accept my pain and to relax my body. I became aware of habits and negative emotions that were adversely affecting my health. After a few weeks of Dahn Yoga, I felt myself becoming stronger, both physically and emotionally. When I did have pain, I was able to work through it.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Eventually I attended the Dahn Healing System training and the intensive Tao Holistic Healing Program, both held at the Sedona Mago Retreat Center, in Northern Arizona.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">&#8220;My health condition got much better, and still continues to improve on a daily basis. I no longer need any pain medication regularly. In fact, I have seldom taken any painkillers during the past year. Friends and family have commented on the changes that they see in me. I am now a healthier and happier person than I was even before being diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis. I truly feel calmer, centered, focused and better able to handle the inevitable problems that I encounter. My disease is not cured, but my condition no longer dominates and distorts my life. Dahn Yoga has helped to improve my health and my life in ways that I could only imagine before beginning this journey!&#8221;</p>

<p>Nearsightedness is usually brought about by a natural change in the shape of your eye that causes your eye to become more oval shaped, rather than the normal round shape. This causes the light entering the eye to focus in front of the retina, resulting in an out-of-focus image.</p>
<p><strong> Symptoms of Nearsightedness</strong></p>
<p>The main symptom is blurred vision when focusing on distant objects. If you find yourself squinting when looking at far off scenes, you may be nearsighted. If you have trouble seeing words on a blackboard or movie screen, but you can read a book with no problem, you&#8217;re probably nearsighted. A routine eye examine can determine if you&#8217;re nearsighted.</p>
<p><strong> Diagnosing Nearsightedness</strong></p>
<p>A routine eye exam will determine if you&#8217;re nearsighted. Nearsightedness usually begins in childhood or early teens and its effects can vary from mild to moderate to high. Mild cases may not require any corrective action.</p>
<p>Most children are born slightly farsighted, but this corrects itself by the normal development of the eye as the child ages. However, if the correction is too pronounced, the light rays focus in front of the retina instead of directly on the retina, and the child becomes nearsighted.</p>
<p>Treatment of Nearsightedness</p>
<p>Glasses or contact lenses can treat nearsightedness, but surgery can also be performed to cure nearsightedness by reshaping the cornea.</p>

It is just a simple article about what worked for me - a 47 year old guy who had been smoking for over 30 years and ended up on 60 cigarettes a day. I reckon if I can do it then perhaps this article will help others to seriously consider giving up.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">How many times have you tried to stop smoking? If you are anything like me you stopped, (at least temporarily), because you saw something on the TV, a friend had a stoke, you were short of funds or&#8230; there are umpteen reasons why people give up and then start again as soon as the initial &#8220;scare&#8221; has worn off.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As I said, I was smoking 60 cigarettes a day and was well and truly addicted.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">You&#8217;ve heard everybody going on at you about why you should stop smoking. Generally the worst people are those who have given up smoking themselves and have set out on a personal crusade, (although it sometimes comes across more as a vendetta), to banish every last trace of smoke on the entire planet.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I advocate a more reasoned approach to stopping smoking. The only important factor in the whole process is YOU.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It is absolutely NOT about&#8230;</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">** doing what somebody tells you to do. ** doing exactly what they have done to stop smoking. ** feeling awkward and guilty around people who do not smoke.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">When Is The Right Time To Stop Smoking?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The reason why people stop smoking and then start again is simply because they were not ready to stop at that time.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I thought things through for around 3 months before I finally took the plunge and even then I told everyone that it was only a first step I was taking to stop smoking and I would take it just one day at a time - I found this took the pressure off me so that if I did start smoking again I wouldn&#8217;t appear to be a &#8220;failure&#8221;.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Remember that smoking is a very real addiction. It takes over your whole life. You probably find that whatever you do revolves around when you are going to have the next puff. Whether it&#8217;s working in the office, in the garden or whatever&#8230; your mind is always thinking about stopping what you are doing to go and have a smoke.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Don&#8217;t feel guilty about this&#8230; as I said it&#8217;s a very real addiction.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Just as an aside, (at least in the UK), there are more and more doctors who will point blank refuse to treat you for smoking related illness if you are a smoker.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Personally I think they are sick. Far better to refer someone for counselling, (which honestly does work despite my initial skepticism about having someone pry into my habits!).</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">My counsellor, Doreen, has been marvelous right from the word go. Low key, does not pry, no shock tactics, no lectures&#8230; just a very informal chat about the best way for ME to stop smoking.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Doreen put me on patches and gave me a little puffer as I call it, (a nicotine inhalator to be posh), and assured me that at no time would these be suddenly taken away after 3 months or whatever.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A controlled amount of nicotine into your body to take away the urges does you absolutely no harm at all. The real danger is from the smoke going into your lungs. I don&#8217;t know enough to be technical here but if nicotine is causing the addiction and you can have as much nicotine as you want for as long as you need it, in the form of patches or whatever, then it&#8217;s all good news for us.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I&#8217;m not saying you won&#8217;t get cravings once you decide to stop smoking but the cravings in my case were normally associated with certain habits. For instance I would associate smoking with coffee. A cup of strong sweet coffee with 5 or 6 cigarettes was pure heaven. I still miss it now to be honest but I normally drink tea and if I do have a coffee I always have my little puffer for a quick blast.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Also remember that the urge to smoke only lasts a minute or so. If you can think about something else for a few minutes, (I know it&#8217;s easier said than done), but the urge really does go away.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Whilst researching the Internet for some facts before writing this article I became so despondent about the &#8220;advice&#8221; from the so called experts I decided to just sit down and write as I feel from a personal viewpoint.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">One of the snippets of &#8220;expert&#8221; advice was to make a &#8220;Stop Smoking Contract&#8221; and have your family and friends sign it. I mean, give me a break will you&#8230; If this is not putting pressure on someone trying to stop smoking I don&#8217;t know what is.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Another expert gem was to plaster No Smoking signs all over the house and around your workplace. Great if you need a constant reminder about smoking.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The whole idea is to gently, in your own time, get away from the habits and thoughts associated with smoking.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I certainly feel better for stopping smoking. Apart from the huge amount of money it saves me, my legs are not tired all the time and I generally have more energy.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In conclusion I would say that in your quest to stop smoking make sure it is what YOU want at a time that is right for YOU.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Go and see your doctor to refer you to a counsellor before giving up. Be honest with the counsellor&#8230; If you smoke 80 cigarettes a day then say you smoke 80 cigarettes a day. It is self defeating to say you only smoke 10 or 20 or &#8220;about a pack a day&#8221;.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">When YOU feel the time is right to stop smoking then do it but not before. Don&#8217;t let anyone pressure you into stopping.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Remember, if you don&#8217;t succeed the first time, (although if you have prepared yourself then there is no reason not to succeed), this is not a failure. It is a huge first step you have courageously taken to stop smoking.</p>
